Cathedral Cove and the Hot Water Beach

Today we woke up at 5 am and drove to the Coromandel Peninsula from Auckland. This may sound extreme, but it ally wasn't since we a still adjusting to New Zealand time.

The morning drive was actually quite nice. We watched the sun rise over the mountains. The drive also got us to Hahei Beach early enough to rearrange our camper an to our liking prior to our kayak tour. Funny thing is, when it came time, we opted to walk to Cathedral Cove instead of kayak.

The hike was short but beautiful and perfect for our still tired legs. We got to see three coves including the famous Cathedral Cove which was one of my must sees. You better believe I ran through it like they do in Narnia and enjoyed every moment of it.

After our hike, we headed to the Hot Water beach area. We were there a little early because we changed plans. We enjoyed the extra time at a local cafe whee Jay made a new friend.

Next we were off to the Hot Water Beach. We got there at the beginning of the four hour window. We thought we would have to wait a good 30 mins before finding the hot springs under the beach. Then in an instant the beach was bubbling! We quickly started shoveling with our new friend from Lithuania and enjoyed the very hot water together.

Now we're enjoying South African wine... In New Zealand.... It happens. I hope to check back in soon!
