Wedding Wednesday: The Elkridge Furnace Inn

On the last few Wedding Wednesdays I told you about the venues we looked and never quite looked at. After only a few weeks of searching, we knew we had found our location!!

The moment we stepped on the property, we knew The Elkridge Furnace Inn was our location. The location is the perfect distance, half-way between my parents house in Baltimore and our apartment in Arlington. Additionally, it is only a few minutes from my grandparents retirement community and BWI airport. What wouldn’t we like about this location from a proximity stand point? We can’t find a reason our local or long distance friends could be unhappy.

The Elkridge Furnace Inn was our second site visit of the day, so we tried really hard not to fall in love with it right away, but it was so hard not to, and let’s be honest we fell in love.

With Jay being from Charleston and me from Baltimore, we knew we wanted to go for a historic mansion feel (hence many of our site visits). We really felt like this house embodied our Southern/Chesapeake theme. And for an added bonus, both of us grew up in brick houses, so the historic brick feel compelled us.

The gardens did not hurt either. As a child, I never had an image of my ideal wedding, but I did always want to be married outside. The Elkridge Furnace Inn offered us the feel of an outside wedding with the security of a tent.

Rumor has it that rain on your wedding day will bring a better marriage. While I hope it doesn’t rain the whole time, you won’t find this bride fretting over a few showers!

A few other reasons that made this location the location is that the Assistant Manager, Matthew, is so easy to work with. He was very responsive to our (my) e-mails and willing to work with our budget. He understands that no two weddings are alike at The Elkridge Furnace Inn and is willing to work with our specific demands. In the end, this location had just what we were looking for and we were happy to sign our contract for next summer!

What did you look for in your location? Were you lucky to just know you found the right location?
