On Saturday, before we went to Baltimore, Jay and I headed out on a 10 mile run. In an effort to make our runs a little different, this week I opted for a run similar to the Army Ten Miler Course.
The main difference between this course and the original is that mine starts and ends at the Crystal City metro station. Because we ran around Gravely Point, we were also able to cut the mall shorter than the original course (that goes all the way to the Capitol Building).
All-in-all I was very happy with the course, but my body… not so much. This week, Jay and I both realized that we need to start waking up earlier for our long runs. Our bodies just need the time in the morning to wake-up and get going. I know my stomach and both of our energy levels would appreciate it!!!
The bottom-line: we both finished the run!!! On to 11 miles next week… Yes, we have updated our training schedule.
Waking up at 4:45 a.m. this past week was not kind to either of us. Jay’s first clinical internship requires him to be downtown by 7:00 a.m. This puts a little damper on our training schedule as it is really hard to run 60 minutes in the morning when you have to be out of the apartment by 6:15 a.m. Thankfully, with his long days comes the perk of only working 4 days a week. Therefore, Jay and I have decided to manipulate our training schedule a little during the next 7 weeks while he is still at the first clinic.
Now, we will complete our 60 minute run on Mondays and will do our long runs on Monday when one of us are out of town. We both decided that a long run of 11 or 14 miles would just not happen on our own.
